Educate me about my new Truck

Push button 4wd = stupid idea but whatever, the truck overall is the best I've ever owned. I've had them all, Dodge, Ford, Toyota and now Chevy. The powertrain combo and interior noise levels are the best...

Anyway, I have the Push button 4wd setup to the left of the steering wheel...Is this the Autotrac? Do I need the blue Fluid p/n 12378508 for it?

I also have the 3.73 gears and the G80 locking diff, which fluid for that?

Does anyone run Amsoil or is the GM Stuff the only thing recommended?

This is an LT model, so it has leather and also has the 'remote' CD player in the console. I have a Kenwood MP3 player to put in the stock Head unit location so I will probably get the GM cubby, part # 159588735 for it...any better recommendations?

Thanks in advance...

Brett

These are the RPO's I found for the 2000 model year truck's:

NP1 Transfer Case - (Electric) - Full Range

NP2 Transfer Case- (Manual) - Full Range

NP3 Transfer Case - (AWD)

NP8 Transfer Case - (Active) - Push Button Control, 2 Speed

I'm guessing you don't have NP2. I think Autotrac was NP3, but I could be wrong. What code is on the list in your glovebox?

NP8 is the Autotrac transfer case. If you have an Auto 4WD button you have Autotrac. The blue fluid needs to be used in this transfer case. You need the grape stuff from GM in the rear end.

Yea you have the autotrac, use the blue stuff about 4.00 a litre bottle at the dealer, you'll need two for a drain/refill. I use synthectic 75w90 in the rear diff, you can use the amsoil everywhere but the transfer case. :) Good luck with the new truck :sigh:

Yep, I run Amsoil fluids in everything except the transfer case. That seems to be a special fluid.

I use Amsoil in my truck (I'm a dealer), and yep, you gotta use the GM Autotrac II fluid in your truck (additional additives over the original Autotrac I fluid) - no biggie.

Personally, I like my Autotrac setup - much better than the manual shift I had my 2002 Silverado - smooth as silk!!!!
