Passenger puddle on floor mat

Hey guys.

I've got rubber floor mats in my truck and I've noticed that I get puddles on my floor after it rains. Only on the passenger side floor mat. At first my dad thought the windshield was leaking, so we had it resealed. Then I noticed that that problem still persisted and also would drip occasionally when I had the A/C running. I notice the HVAC box is two pieces, is it common for the box to leak at this joint?

I have to recheck my drain to make sure it isn't clogged. I worked on a '99 Escalade with a floor saturated with water when the A/C was running. Turns out the caddy's have a 90 degree rubber elbow coming out of the firewall for the box drain to direct the water to the ground. Well, that 90 elbow was twisted up and smashed against the insulation for the low side freon hose and was clogging the drain. I twisted the elbow back down and got showered with water. So naturally I crawled under my truck the other day and expected the same problem. Well the '97 Yukes are different than those escalades and dont have a rubber elbow, so I will have to blow the drain out with compressed air and see what happens.

Is leaking from the HVAC box common on these trucks?

I was just looking at some old pics of my engine bay when I had the motor out and couldn't find the drain. Doesn't it come through the same hole in the firewall as the heater core hoses do?

Your truck should have that elbow next to the heater hoses. In fact it should be identical to the Escalade you looked at. The HVAC system, along with nearly everything else is identical between a 99-00 Escalade/Denali and CKs. Sometimes the rubber elbow gets knocked off and it allows the water to drain back into the cab rather than down the fender. I had to replace the box in my 97 because the nipple the elbow attaches to cracked off and the water was leaking right onto the carpet.

Hey butch,

yeah my truck is pretty fast, but not fast enough to make someone pee themselves. I just bought one of those VR stacks for the intake and a superchips programmer. Once I install those I should gain some much needed low end torque (d**n camshaft!) and then i will have to put tarps on my seats. :D

okay, ill take a better look at it.

I know its leaking from the box because you can see where the drops are landing on the floor mat.

Also, anybody have their passengers complain about the floor getting warm on long trips?

On vacation, my mom was sitting in the pass seat and took off her sandals and said the floor was very hot. I know its because the cats are right under there. Perhaps it couldn't hurt to weld on a heat shield when I make my new exhuast?

There should be a heat shield there already. Funny that you mention this, because that is the reason that I noticed my floor being wet. When you lift the carpet you will probably find that the floor is damp along with the carpet. Since the insulation in the carpet is filled with water ( I know it's a small amount but......) instead of air. The heat is being conducted from the exhaust instead of insulated by the air. I think when you fix the water problem you will fix your heat soaking in too. As far as the new exhaust......Your truck already has duals back past the passenger seat anyway so nothing will change.

I've actually got the exact same problem with my '97 Yukon. The puddle problem i mean. When i run the A/C, i can see water dripping down onto my floor mats. A buddy of mine's mom has a '93 Suburban, and he told me she's got the same problem. I'm thinking it's a pretty common thing, not to say it isn't annoying.
