child restraint ?'s

Ok just curious what everybody is using for car seats for the little ones in the back of crew cabs. We just had our first last friday and now I am trying to make these d**n things work. The first I put on the passenger side and uses just the seat belt but there is no way that is safe...went for a ride and it just bounced all over the place. The one in the wifes car uses the latch system and is rock solid. The owners manual says that the crew cabs have the latch system but I dont see it anywhere. So....question 1...Where do you have the seat? Question 2...If you used the latch system, where tha hell is it? And How did it work?

thanks

I think there might be something behind the seat for putting in kid seats....right below the back glass, I think I remember seeing something back there when i was screwing with my sub box.

yeah I saw that too but I think thats for a top strap for an todler seat but who knows...

First place should be center rear seat, then rear passenger, then rear driver. Front only as a last resort with airbag off. All locations (except drivers of course) should have strap anchor points between the back and seat cushions, metal "D" loops. The front passenger seats "D" loops are really visible. On top of the rear seat cushsion should be some more strap anchor points mounted to the back wall. The anchor points should be in the manual.

IF YOU HAVE ANY DOUBTS, take it to the dealer or some Fire Departments/Police Departments have mounting verifiation programs and will check it for you.

The new seats are not suppose to use the vehicles' standard passenger restraint systems. Only the straps supplied with the seat. And I think now there are even different seats for the different positions in the vehicles

We're talking trucks, but some newer cars have side airbags and present another critter in themselves.

I've had the same problem. If you pop off the plastic cap, there is a place to anchor the strap. I have mine in as snug as my wife's suburban now.

ok I must be blind. I see points of attachments below the rear window and at the base of the front of the rear seat but the owners manual says that there are locations at the base of the seat back where it meets the seat cushion but I dont see them...am I blind? if anyone has pics that might help

thanks

I went out and looked at my crewcab, and folded and unfolded the rear seat several times and I couldn't find and attachment point (latch) at the base of the rear seatback on the passenger side.

I didn't check the middle position on the rear seat, but that is where my '01 manual "implies" that there is a latch at the seatback bottom. I'd be happy to run out and check there if you'd like.

Congrats on the new addition... and lets' keep Jr. safe!!!

(I thought I found them, but it ended up being the catch for the latch system on the seat bottoms)

On my crew cab I have two catches at the crack of the seat for the new car seats. They are only in the center position and located on the seat back. The hooks under the back glass are for forward facing seats only. :)

Hope this helps

Congrates on the new born!

If you pull the seat belt all the way it ratches back tight. Never had a problem with mine. Don't know about 01 and 02 but my 03 has shoulder belts all the way acroos the back seat. I also have the tie downs but the munkin is using a larger seat that does use them.

well the dealers were useless...they claim they are not leagaly allowed to show people where the car seats mount. And I need to go to an authorized installer. Anyone heard of this?

My truck is in the body shop but when I get it back in two days I will take some pictures. When my son was in the rear facing pumpkin seats we always put him in the rear middle seat. Now that he's bigger and in a forward facing seat we put him on the right rear seat. I use the rear anchor and the seat belt for his seat now. My brother in laws pumpkin seat uses the two hooks that are located in the center position in the rear seat. There are these two hooks that come from the seat and connect to the ones on the seat itself. The pumpkin seat that we have doesn't have this feature so we just used the seatbelt in the center because it is a lap only belt and did not pull the seat to one side.

I hope this helps some?

Our little one is 11 weeks. We got a stroller that had a carrier/carseat and a base with it. The base is held down by the middle seat belt and stays in the truck all the time. I put a towel under it and behind it to keep it from messing up the seat and get it level. Then the carrier/car seat sets in the base and clicks in. When you take it out it clicks into the stroller until he is big enough for the stroller alone.

I prefer to have my kids standing in the bed of the truck where they can get as messy as they want. J/K.

I use the rear anchors for the forward facing car seat, and the middle belt for the base of the rear facing one. there arent any anchors on the floor below the seats, but some vehicles do now. They would be nice, then they would anchor in the rear and in front below the seat, double anchors. There are 3 anchor points behind each seat. If I wasnt worried about anybody else to be riding in the back, I would put the rear facing baby seat directly behind passenger because it kinda lodges itself in there against the back of the passnger seat for a more snug fit.

When the kids seats are side by side, there is still enough room for another person to sit next to them in back.

Some car seats actually come with videos to show you the right and wrong installation of the seats!!!!
