1998 Diesel

Could someone tell me how the 98 Diesels faired? I'm looking at a 98 Suburban2500 LS Diesel with 48,000 miles on it-$17,000. I've been told that Diesels don't even break in till 100,000 miles!

The 6.5L Tubo Diesel are OK. They aren't as quiet or as powerful as a DMax, but they will last a long time. My buddy has had a couple of them. The last one he had lost a head gasket at about 150K miles, but otherwise it ran just fine, and was trouble free.

Be cautious of the injector pump. They have a bad history of failure. Many trucks are on their second or third. GM is offering a warranty up to 190,000 kms (Canada) on the pump then you are on your own. At $2000 a pop, it a risky little box.

Definately ask is the pump has been replaced and if it was replaced with a new or rebuilt. Check what warranty is offered on the US for these.
