Keyless entry FOB

Recommended Posts

I bought my truck used back in 2001 and only received one keyless entry remote with the truck. Now that I have found one on EBAY for a reasonable price I was wondering how do I program it to work with my truck. I know I could always go to the dealer and have them do it but just wondering if there was a way that was simple and didnt have to pay for something being simple. Thanks.

There is a way to do it im not sure if it is the same for my blazer as it is for the silverado but its worth a try .

If they show a pic of the back of the transmitter make sure all the numbers match

1. Start with the ignition OFF, hold down the power unlock button on the door panel. Turn ignition key ON, OFF, ON, OFF. Release power unlock button on the door panel. The locks will cycle once.

2. Hold down the key FOB lock and unlock buttons for 15 seconds . The locks will again cycle once.

3. Repeat step #2 for each additional key FOB.

4. Turn the ignition on to exit the key FOB programming mode. Programming is now complete.

I lost one of my FOBs and had it replaced, I found the lost one, is there anyway to have all three programed? Right now the lost one does not work, only the replacement and my spare.

You may program up to 4 transmitters, using either of the two following procedures:

Transmitter Programming Procedure (Method 1 - No Tools Required)

Close all the vehicle doors.

Insert the ignition key into the ignition lock cylinder.

Press and hold the door unlock switch.

While holding the door lock switch in the unlock position, cycle the ignition ON, OFF, ON, OFF.

Release the door unlock switch. The doors will lock and unlock to confirm the program mode.

Press and hold the LOCK button and the UNLOCK button simultaneously on one transmitter. After a delay of approximately 15 seconds , the doors will lock and unlock to confirm the programming of that transmitter.

Repeat the previous step to program up to four transmitters.

Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position in order to exit the keyless entry transmitter mode.

Operate the transmitter functions in order to verify correct system operation. Transmitter Programming Procedure (Method 2 - Scan Tool Required)

Purchased 2000 GMC Sierra SLE used from a stealer, only came with one remote

and it doesn't work. Went to WalMart got new batteries, put them in did the resynchronize thing as per owners manual and got it to work...1 time. After repeated tries and different batteries no joy. Don't want to pay stealer price, found some on ebay same part number as mine. I have some concerns...Did the stealer find a bad one in a drawer and pass it off so I have to trade with their parts department for a new one? How do I find out if it is in fact the correct part number for my application? How do I know if it is the remote or the receiver?

If there are other part numbers that will work, what are they? Any info you can provide greatly appreciated

Have you tried re-programming the remote per the instructions noted above? Those instructions are correct as I recenty bought one off eBay, and used them to successfully program my new remote on my 02 Chevy!!

In regards to rather or not it's your FOB or the actual receiver....I have no idea. Either way if you just recently purchased the truck, I would think the stealer would at least swap you out a FOB to see if that was the difference or at least take a peek at the receiver. It might be worth a shot anyhow.

Here's a link to a thread here that shows where it is on my '99 new body style. It may be the same for yours.

I can't remember for sure, but it may have had the FCC ID code on the module, that you need you FOB to be.

As a last resort, you may be able to give your VIN to a parts person at a dealer, and they may be able to tell you what FCC ID FOB you need. I'm not sure though.

Welcome to the site. :D

Good luck.
