Quadrasteer Bad/Lack of Advertising

We have all noticed that there is no advertizing for the Quadrasteer anymore. I fear that this means that GM will drop Quadrasteer.

The problem that I have is that they advertized the capability for the Rancher and Farmer and Off Roader but they never talked about the enhanced capability Quadrasteer gives you when you are driving in the city.

I am from Orlando Florida and there are Chevy and GM trucks everywhere. You see all sorts of drivers and they all have the same problem when you have a long wheelbase vehicle.

Trying to negotiate a U Turn or Trying to get in and out of parking spaces.

When I was in my 2001 Silverado I regularly had to take extra steps to get in and out of parking places at shopping centers or at work because parking lots are made for CARS not TRUCKS (especially long wheelbase trucks). Also how many times do you have to run up on the curb or back up and go again to make a U Turn

With Quadrasteer I don't have the problem.

There are as many trucks in the city as there are in the country and More and More people in the city are buying trucks.

Not everybody pulls a horse trailor. Us city dwellers pull boats and small trailers with Lawn equipment and use our trucks as our everday vehicle when we drive around town.

Why don't they advertize the City Driving Capability.

I think it's more than just advertising.

To me, only offering it on trucks that sticker at $40k is whats going to kill it.

If they can make it a $1500 option, put it on the LS trucks, the reg cabs, the Avy, and the Tahoe....They would probably have a grand slam on their hands.

This also brings to mind a question...If they can squeeze it under the rear end of Burb...Why the wider track on the pickups? I know it adds stability, but it increases production costs with an entirely different bedside.

I don't have it, but I live in OK, so parking lots are designed for trucks. :D Parking isn't normally a problem.

U-turns? Didn't you go to the Duke boys school of cornering? Now THATS how you negotiate a turn. :(

I agree though, if they don't do something, it's going to go the way of the Protec bed, and fins on Caddys.

At the time I bought my truck, I knew QS existed for about $4500 more. However, sales rep never made a mention of it. I also think that if GM had set up a demo area in each major city with handson parking scenarios between a Saturn, Ext Cab and a QS Ext Cab, along with a tandem axle horse trailer between the two trucks manuverability/parking handson, there would be a back order for the option right now with the price now in range more like deciding 4WD or not, $2500.

If I had to get a new truck and still didn't need to tow capacity, I'm all over the QS option box.

Although a DMax/Ally/QS CC sure would be the ticket.

The Suburban QS also have the wide track and flared rear wheel wells with running lights.

Also I'm not sure if it is a stability issue, but the current QS rear is suppose to be "parts bin" Dana front 4WD axle.

The reason for the wider track is to no loose any bed space (as in increase wheel wells). Also, if they were to make the track like a "normal" truck, they would have to move the springs further inn, or the tires would hit them. Which is a problem you do not have on the Suburbans and Tahoes etc, as they have coils.

I must say I do love my QS though. It still amazing how much difference that little turn of the rear tires can do. I love making U-Turns where my buddy in his Ext. Cab short bed has to make a three point turn. That alone is worth the $ 2k for the setup. :(:D

I know for the guys, including myself, who keep there trucks for 5+ years, Q-steer gives you an extra 4 ball joints and 2 universal joints to wear out. Not to mention extra tie rods and all of the electronics that could potiential fail as well. It could lead to a very expensive vehicle to own when the warrenty runs dry. Q-steer still has to prove it will be reliable in the long run. And by long run, I mean 6 or 7 years.

I love the idea though. Picture a regular cab short with Q-steer, 6" lift and 35s. That would be one fun trail vehicle.

I agree GM did not get the word out. I pick-up my QS this friday12/19. I was lucky enough to have one to drive around for a few days. That sold me on the GM vehicle vs a f250 super duty. Technology is a wonderful thing. I believe Delphi a spin off of GM that invented this QS for GM will have the ability to market the technology in 2004 to others such as Dodge, Ford etc... I think we will see more of the QS in other vehicles over the next couple of years besides GM.

Where do you think the Saginaw Steering divsion of GM went... I'm not sure who owns the pink slip for what, but Delphi was formed by folding a bunch of the GM divisions into it such as Saginaw, Harrison, most of Delco, and probably some others.

Rob,

I have no idea what other units made up Delphi. Actually it does not matter in my opinion their product is great. My point is that it looks like the great technology of quadrasteer will be marketed potentially to the big three. Well I should say one down two to go. I think that is a positive thing provided quadrasteer stands the test of time as a feature without major issues. So far it looks good.

My extended warranty on my truck w/ 0$ deductible cost $1400, so I would hate to see what an extended warranty on a QS truck would cost...Yikes!!!

My dealer wanted $2400 for the extended warranty. I deferred but may regret it later.

You have until the last day of your factory warrenty to choose to get the extended if you want it. You can always change your mind.

My suburban has rear springs not coils. Hence the flare out.

It is as good or better in the city as it is for towing. They should exploit that feature. show the soccer moms it turns better then a minivan, cause you know the soccer dads really want the truck instead of the mini van so you would have half the couple sold going into it.

$2400 is a lot for a warranty, but the price of an extended warrranty can be negotiated downwards.

As to Quadrasteer going away, I quess that depends on its success in the marketplace. GM has reduced its price to around $1995, and that should help its popularity. Delphi doesn't think QS is going away, as they are working on the second generation, which will incorporate stability control. There is a good story about QS at PickupTruck.com. According to this story, QS will be showing up on two nonGM trucks in the near future.

Does the Tahoe really need to turn any tighter?? :flag: After driving my truck, or an older 'burban, it feels like the Tahoe could out turn a jeep... If they would put the AWS on a 'hoe, I probably wouldn't have to back out of my driveway, I could just turn around! :(:D

Another feature that GM does not seem to advertise is AutoTrac. As far as I know there are no other 1/2 ton pickups that have both a low range 4WD for offroad use, and the capability to use hi-range 4WD on pavement (for instance, when it is raining). Quadrasteer and AutoTrac are 2 features that differentiate the GM 1/2 ton trucks from all the others, and you would think GM would like to gloat about that, but they seem to be pretty silent about these features. Or maybe I am not looking in the right magazines where these things are advertised??
