Transmission Slipping?

I have felt my transmission slip 2 times in the last couple months. I plan on making an appointment with the dealer to change the filter and fluid, hopefully that will help. (I have 28,000 miles on it) I did a search and found that there was a computer problem on the 4L80E but I couldnt find anything about a 4L60E. Does anyone have any info on a 4L60E slipping. I am thinking about trying to get them to flash the computer when I am there under warranty but dont know if they will do that or not. I kind of need some hard evidence of a tranny computer problem because I doubt it will slip for them when I take it in! Really hope that the filter and fluid change will help, but doubt there is a clog with just 28k miles. Thanks Guys!

I think there is a "Flash" for the 4L60E also, because you aren't the only one here that has had this problem w/their 1/2 ton truck...

UPDATE: Well, I had my truck at the dealer this morning (yes Christmas Eve) and the service manager talked with GM. GM said they have had many complaints just like mine and they have narrowed down the problem to 3 things. 2 are internal and one is not. The 2 internal have something to do with a broken spring or something about a clutch. The other thing is the cable, so the service manager checked my cable and said it was off about a 1/2 inch, and it wouldnt adjust. So he is going to order me a new cable and go from there.

A few times I thought my 01 hoe was slipping from a standard start, but determined it was really starting out in 2nd gear (you can force this by shifting to 2nd). So about 1yr ago I took my 01 Tahoe in with a "sometimes starts in 2nd gear from a stop" and something else and they did do a free computer flash. But, your problem does seem to be more tranny related vs computer.

When you say tranny slipping:

Do you mean...I step on the gas at a red light and it did not catch immediately?

Or do you mean, I was going down the road and felt it slipping?

Mine has (2001 39K miles) on 2 occasions...sorta left me sitting at a redlight for about 2 nanoseconds longer than it should then ZANG it grabs and operates fine.

Twice mind you...but I cannot make it do it, and I never know when it might.

aside from that...I have another blue mooner for ya - - Sometimes when I start the engine from cold- - it casts a cloud of blue smoke. Done this 4 times since brand new. Cannot MAKE it do it...no rhyme or reason to WHEN it does it (hot, cold, 3 days sitting...30 minutes sitting). And it is not - bad valve guide seals...they make it smoke everytime cause it lets oil slide down into the cylinder.

Love the truck...love the no problems....Just a couple of minor: "what the hecks?"

From a stop is when mine does it. Kind of like I am on ice for a couple seconds. Never has done it while I am driving, the transmission is fine under all other situations.

Dont know about the smoke prob though.

Are you sure it's not starting out in 2nd gear? Mine did that a very few times, I thought my trans was shot - when that happened I would give it more throttle and it would kick down into 1st pretty hard, what a surprise! Anyway, I think the computer update the dealer did fixed it. BTW you can leave it in 2nd and start from a stop and it will start in 2nd, and that's the feeling I was having.

Nah, its not the starting in 2nd deal, its like starting in Neutral for a few seconds. When I start, the tach just jumps up and I do not move.

Well there was another post on the forum about a 'chatter' when they started out under a light load and light acceleration. I thought it could be the torque converter not locking properly. I have a mustang that the same problem you are having happened. Hopefully yours is computer related. Heres what mine did. At a light it felt like starting in second gear all the time. I would power break and it would bog the engine down. Ticked me off. What had happened was the entire 1" think shaft that holds the torque converter twised and broke. They said I was doing a neutral drop, but that never happened. Smarter than that. What happens is that the torque converter wast multipying the torque from the motor to the transmission. So when you step on it there was no torque until you got out of the stall range of the converter then it would be fine. Just the stop and going is when it was horrible. They had to rebuild the whole tranny. Mind you this is in a '91 5.0 LX Mustang. Not to much computer there. So hopefully thats all yours is. Dont mean to scare you. Just a little input

took my 1500hd to the shop today for the transmission slipping, bad sending unit, and the knock sensor. waiting to here for the dealer ship to see what they say about the transmission. keep yal posted.

Dealer just called this moring and told me to be down there next Tuesday (6th I think). They are going to put in a new cable and go from there!

got my truck back today. told me nothing was wrong with my transmission. they said that they checked the computer and found no codes. i asked to talk to the transmission technician and they told me that they do not let people talk to them. they assured me that they checked it out and nothing was wrong. the next time it happens im going to take it back and talk to the service manager.

Well thats weird. Cant talk to the transmission guy huh? Wow must be a real importante man round there. So does it drive ok? Everything seem ok?

Nothing wrong huh? Thats usually whay my service manager says but luckily GM knows about the problem and have the three causes I listed in an earlier post. I told him I needed something done because my warranty will be up in 6,000 miles and he kinda said lets not worry about that, so thats cool with me!

everything seems to be ok for right now but im shure it will act up again. its just like the problem that Silverado WV has. does not do it a lot like every day but more like 2 times a month or so. next time i go to the dealer im going to take a copy of the post that Silverado posted about what the service manager said. keep us posted on your truck Silverado WV.
