99 2500 VS 2004 2500HD

Does anyone know if the HP has increased on the 6.0 since 99?

My father-in-law has a 99 2500 6liter. The tailpipe on mine is significantly

larger in diameter and I was wondering what changed.

HP is the same, but they changed the exhaust diameter mid year on 2001 models I believe. They gave the 6.0 and 8.1 the same size tailpipe on the HD's.

The '99 would be considered a LD2500. Although it still has a great GVW, it isn't as much as a 2500HD.

 

If you look at a 1500HD, which also has the lower GVW but the 6.0L, you'll notice that it also has the smaller tailpipe. (I think )

I almost bought a 99 2500 6.0 I believe the heads were iron and had small tailpipe.

In Dec. 00 I purchase a 01 2500 HD 6.0 and my brother a 2500 6.0, both have

aluminum heads. Mine however had the bigger tailpipe and a duel in and out

muffler. My brother's had a small tailpipe and the muffler was duel in single out.

All three were rated by GM at 300HP!

 

I believe the ratings are mostly for advertising.

I think you are right about the heads on the '99 2500 6.0L

Thanks, Just wondered what the difference was. I figured in 5 years they

may have boosted the HP. I see the 4.8 got a boost to 285. My 01

had 270. I wonder at what cost.
