My passenger side window stopped working the other day and I want to know if there's anything I can check myself before I have to take it to the dealer for repair.

one thing you could try is hold the down button on driver's side and have someone else open and close the passenger side door pretty hard it might start working again for a little while. but you better save up to buy a window motor! it ain't cheap.

I have a 99 Sierra SLE - ECSB ... and my driver side window started to "Flake-out" about a year ago. I had trouble when the driver's window was all the way down, it appeared to get stuck in that position. I popped out the switch panels on the driver's and passenger doors to see if I could find any signs of loose wires, broken contacts, etc. ...but found nothing concrete. I had already checked all fuses, both under the hood and to the left of the instrument panel ... also nothing wrong there! There is no way to swap the switch modules from driver's and passenger doors, as they are dual and single (different!). So, other than removing the connectors, cleaning the contacts and re-installing the modules, I haven't fixed anything. But, to my amazement all is well, most of the time. :seeya: I have found that when the window starts to act wacky, that I must firmly depress and hold down the driver's side button and after a few seconds (what seems a little too long!) it will finally go back up! :sigh: My spin on this whole thing is maybe a limit switch in the bottom of the window track is "not happy" or the relay in the door switch module is intermittant. Anyhow, I haven't had a bad enough problem to investigate this any further. Now that I posted a response, the damned thing will probably defy me tomorrow during a predicted snow-squall! :jester: I don't even want to know how much the switch module will cost from the stealer. Good Luck! Dana

I have a '99 Silverado that the power window on the driver's side started to act reluctantly. I took the switch out and it is a complex mechanism with several contact points. One set of the contacts had a heavy black depost. After cleaning the contacts the window worked normally.
