Tire review

Yeah, they're Pep Boys tires, but they were on the truck when I got it, and they were brand new, so I'm not complaining there.

Overall, I think they're a 7.5 or 8 out of 10.

These are on an S-10 ZR2 pickup with only a tonneau cover on the bed, no other weight in the back. Tire pressures were around 32 PSI last I looked. Last storm we had I ended up driving home from work in 4-5 inches of snow, truck handled it as good as, if not better than, my 94 Jimmy would have, with BFG All Terrains on it and more weight on the tail. This would be in 4x4 for both trucks. Wet traction seems better also, the old truck liked to spin the tires easy in the rain, this one sticks a lot nicer, might be due to the bigger contact patch, but grip DOES seem better.

Seems like there's a lot of road noise, but these tires are also a bit bigger than that truck had, these are 31x10.5 15's, compared to the 235/75/15 on the old truck.

Cost is almost no comparison, these are inexpensive tires. Pep Boys site lists them as $84 each for 31x10.5 15 tires. I see no mention of mounting/balancing being more. When I got my BFGs on the old truck, I paid $105 each plus installation.

I'll see how they wear, I only put about 10,000 miles a year on my truck so it'll be a while before they wear out, hopefully. I put 4 years on the BFGs on the old truck and they would have lasted me till next winter if I had kept the truck.

Overall, these "Pep Boys Special" tires actually seem to be decent, they get a :thumbs: from me, contrary to what I thought about Pep Boys "cheap" tires before.

I'm running PB tires on mine also, I think they're just the Dakota's, 285/75R16. I agree with the wet traction, The Fireblowns AT's if you can call them AT's were like running slicks on the rear. So far, so good.

Realized today that I have 31x11.5x15 tires on my truck, not the 31x10.5 I thought they were. Tried them in a bit of mud, not deep but VERY messy and was impressed. I hit the gas more than I normally would have in the stuff and shot straight ahead, in 2WD with minimal spin and the G80 locker didn't lock up.

I think I change my rating to 9/10, they're a bit noisy on the highway.

This is an addition to the review.

Took the truck offroading this weekend, everywhere our leader went I was able to go, except the tank trap, and he had BFG A/T T/A KO's on his truck. This is a GREAT all-around tire for $84 each. May be a value-priced tire, but it performs like one priced $20+ more...
