los7883 Posted February 23, 2004 Posted February 23, 2004 Got a quick question...I don't know if it's just me or what, but when I fill up the tank it takes it a while to run down to 1/4 tank, but when it gets to 1/4, it friggin' moves fast...didn't know if there was something wrong with the fuel gage or if this was normal...any suggestions/ideas?
tmf6902 Posted February 23, 2004 Posted February 23, 2004 ya know I don't think it's normal, but it seems like every car or truck I have ever driven has a place on the guage that it seems to drop really fast....I use my fuel guage to get a good idea of how much gas I think I have.....but after driving my truck for 2 years...I can tell better by my trip meter. So most of the time that's what I do
03GMCinBC Posted February 23, 2004 Posted February 23, 2004 Mine seems to drop rapidly after it hits 1/2 a tank. From full to half, it dosent move very much and I get approx 230 miles to the 1/2 mark. From the 1/2 down (if I let it) I wont push much past an extra 150 miles if I am LUCKY... I dont ever go much past 1/2 a tank due to the fuel pump issues I have read on the posts. I have been there with my 97GMC Sierra and that isnt much fun....
los7883 Posted February 23, 2004 Author Posted February 23, 2004 Mine dropped in 5 minutes from 1/4 to E...kinda freaked me out for a minute...didn't know if I needed to have it checked out.
airbalancer Posted February 23, 2004 Posted February 23, 2004 GM fuel gauges are bad. Both trucks I have had screwed up. 1987 NBS the gauge stopped working and carried 5 gallon in the back. The 2000 when I filled up the gauge would go to empty and full and empty untill it was down to 3/4. There was a story up here about some gas was the cause problem that was mostly in Sunfire and Grand am. Fixed the problem by getting a new truck
gmcjoe Posted February 23, 2004 Posted February 23, 2004 Fuel gauges aren't very accurate, they never have been.
Tolliverme Posted February 23, 2004 Posted February 23, 2004 On my truck, once the fuel is below a quarter of a tank it drops fast. additionally when the tanks is low at about 1/8th tank and I apply the brakes hard the fuel shifts, the guage goes to zero and the low fuel warning light come on. It takes a couple of minutes for everything to go back to normal.
atomoverride Posted February 23, 2004 Posted February 23, 2004 yeah dude RMA that part.....if your truck is too old...go buy a new gauge...or sensor.
black&grayHD Posted February 26, 2004 Posted February 26, 2004 My fuel gauge dropped way too fast from the moment I filled it up
