Correct Shock Length?

New 2004 2500 HD 4wd Suburban. I cranked up the torsion bars 8 turns and now want to replace the shocks. How do I determine what length shock I need or will stock length work? Any preferences on brand of aftermarket shock?

Adjusting the torsion bars doesn't change the front suspension travel. So the stock length will work.

Does alignment have to be adjusted after changing torsion preload??

After lifting the truck, the stock shocks are topped out, the ride sucks because of this. The shock limits downtravel, not the frame, and downtravel is zero at 2.5" of lift. You need 2" of downtravel to ride comfortably.

 

Get longer shocks or modify the stock ones.
