Steering wheel controls

I bought a 2004 GMC D/A SLE Nov. of 03 Sand Beige short box 4 X 4 pretty well loaded up with bucket seats and the bose sound system etc. but it didn't come with the steering wheel radio / driver info. controls. Why this option was left out is beyond me as it would have only been an additional $ 125.00 on the sticker price. I love the truck and it pulls our 10,000 lb. fifth wheel like a dream, I just wish I had the controls to check my MPG and other functions. I have wrote about this before and have looked at different sites but haven't seen this topic discussed. Is there anyone out there that also wishes they had this option I believe (UK3). I would like to put it on but am afraid it will not be as easy as one would think. I've seen topics about adding the automatic climate control panel but it doesn't sound like that has been a 100 % successful either. If you type in steering wheel controls it always seems to revert back to a pontiac or some company that sells them for 2002 or earlier trucks. Does anyone from GM know what it would entail and if they did how would a person contact them. I also put on BF Goodrich 265 X 75R16 KO's and love them. Only throws off the speedo a few MPH at 70 and hasn't messed with the shift points while pulling the trailer. Would like to have installed the 285's but have heard some horror stories. I have 5,500 miles on the truck and am getting about 15 MPG. I realize the tires are throwing things off a bit and that milage will improve with time. I am happy with the truck after getting rid of a 2000 PSD that beat my family and I to death.

Thanks wingnut. I wish I would have been directed to the link you just gave me back in January. Some very interesting reading and your right I am still SOL. I don't mean to agitate anyone here by bringing up this topic again but I have found if you don't ask or bring up the subject every so often nobody else will. Maybe JP Customs or somebody else will come out with a kit but if no one shows interest no one will talk about it.
