Vacuum Noise

I have 1992 s-10 with 180k miles on it 2.8l v6 5 speed. I have noticed a vacuum noise coming from under the hood and when I checked it the other day I noticed a vacuum line has been cut or something. It is located right next to the engine oil fill cap and runs up from the back of the engine to the front. Can anyone tell me what this line is? I could sure use the help. Thanks in advance. I can do simple repair stuff to a truck but once something like this comes up, I don't have a clue.
