Tires on stock HD rims

I am putting some 35's on my 03 HD but I want to keep my stock wheels. I currently am running 285/75's on them. Could i put some 315/75's on the stock wheels, and let them bubble out a little, or could it not work at all on the wheels? I have heard of people doing it, and was curious because i really want to keep them without having to buy new wheels.

You can do it. Jut have to adjust your air pressure accordingly to make them wear even. Also, although you can run them on the street. I dont suggest really doing any heavy towing with them.

So it is possible, I mean i tow some, a 26 foot fishing boat occasionally, and i go offroading some, whenever i get a chance, I just love the look of the stock wheels. Because i have seen some people do it before. I would like more responses for this question, if it unsafe, non recommendable, and so forth, thanks.

Goodyear recommends a rim width of 8 to 10 inches for a tire that size and uses a 8.5" rim for its specifications. If your wheels are the same as mine they are only 6.5" wide so they are obviously too narrow. Not sure what that means in terms of safety, tire wear or load carrying ability. Also they are D rated tires and not E rated as are the stock tires.

My guess is the risk and responsibility is all up to you. You may even find that they will not install them for your application and you will have to take them somewhere else to get them installed.

I would not recommend it personally. Just my.02

There are 2 guys here in my hometowm that run that set up. They have over 50,000 miles between the two truck on them. They havent had any problems at all. Like I said, just have to adjust air pressures. If you are just driving....lower the pressure to make them wear even. If you do tow things, just bump up the pressure 5-8 psi to ensure you dont roll one off the bead. That is highly unlikely, BUT, better safe than sorry.

Here is a 2500HD with stock wheels and 315/75/16 on the stockers. NO LIFT!

Tire manufacturers don't recommend it, but alot of people (on this site included) are running tires bigger than what is recommended for the stock rims.

Technically a 265/75/16 is about the largest tire size that is recommended for these rims.

I would think the downsides to doing what you want is tire wear, load capacities, and safety avoidance manuvers. The last two things I mentioned could possibly pop the tire off the rim.

Also, I would think that any serious off roading or climbing through ditches or over small rocks could also pop the bead off the rim.
