ECM/PCM Corrupted?/Can it be reflashed 98 z71

I posted about my gas gauge needle vibrating between tic marks a few days ago.(98 Ext cab z71) I called an instrument cluster repair shop and they said they doubted the problem was with the gauge but rather with the ecm. They said replace it with one from a junk yard. I know there is a lot of controversy about doing this. My question is can I have the dealership reprogram/reflash my Ecm and if so is this an expensive proposition. Maybe something inside the ecm is shot and reprograming would not help. If so would they still charge me. Any info on ecm reprograming and or swaping or gauge vibration issue would be greatly appreciated. The problem with the vibration started after a dead battery.

Sure you can have the dealer reflash the program, that's the cheapest way, and you get all the latest GM updates too! I've heard prices of around $40 for a reflash.

a 98 truck's fuel guage has NOTHING to do with the PCM, it directly connected to your sending unit, if you guage is messed up, then your sending unit is bad.
