Sorry I cannot be of any help to you.

But I also had a question if I could swap out the stock am/fm/cd unit for a am/fm/cass/cd unit from the new the new Trailblazer?

I beleive the rating is around 30 to 40 watts.  Don't quote me on this.  But it's nowhere near what you get out of an aftermarket amp.  You should have no trouble replacing the front speakers with new ones, only problem I could see would be distortion at higher volume levels.  Since the ampl probably has less THD at full volume versus the stock radio.

As far as the amp running the rear speakers and the sub.  What type of amp ar you using?  Is it a mono block amp (say 250 X 1), or a 2 or 4 channel?  If it's a mono, then you would probably have to use a crossover between the subs and the rear fill speakers.  If it's a 2 or 4 channel, then you can run the subs off say the rear channel, and the rear fills off the front.  Only problem that could happen would be the loss of "surround sound".  You'd probably only notice it on some live recordings.  Hop this helps, sorry for the long post.

How are you running amps off of the stock head unit. Does it have preamp outs? This is something I have been wanting to do. The stock radio is just lacking that umph that I like when I turn it up. Btw, what size speakers are in the front and rear?

thanks for the help on the radio question ive been wondering that for a while, i have a 2-4 channel kenwood amp running my subs right now i had circuit city install it so im pretty sure they used some sort of adapter to hook it up to my radio. thanks for the help again also the front speakers for my 00' are either 6 1/2 or 5 1/4 component and the rear speakers in the door are 4x6"

a lot of amps today have high level inputs, which is just your speaker wire instead of RCAs.  there is an adapter that you can run that'll covert from the high level to the lower level inputs (RCAs). but i strongly suggest you spend some money on a nice head unit.. it makes a world of different.

The stock head unit and speakers are great.. you just need to now how to get the most out them.  I have a Q-logic custom box with a 10" kicker sub.  I tapped into the rear speaker wires and hooked in a inline converter, which changes the wires to RCA. Then buy a subwoofer volume control(Apline makes them) and hook the RCA cables to the inline converter to the sub control.(mine is mounted next to the passenger airbag switch) then run RCA cables to your amp(mine is a 600 watt Kenwood (built in crossover), but i only use about 300watts) note: you can tap the amp remote wire into the hot wire behind the head unit that is only hot when the stereo is on(sorry forgot the color wire-- get the multimeter out) this way the amp is on when the stereo is on, like when the key is off and the stereo is on until the door opens.  Now the important part -- turn the treble on the stereo 75%  up and turn the bass all the way down and don't use the presets(like country).  Mine works great and hits really heard . The stock speakers throw out some great mid and high treble and the bass is very deep. The stock speakers really don't destort at all when they have no bass to them.   Everybody asks what i have in truck i say stock ; ) .. and also the chances of someone breaking into your truck is slight - who wants to  steal a stock radio?    sorry for the long reply --

Good luck,

Doug
