Erratic Gas Gauge

Hi:

 

For the second time this year, my '03 Yukon XL is having problems with the fuel sending unit. The first time the dealer added fuel injector cleaner to the gas (twice) and when this didn't work, they replaced the sending unit.

 

This was apparently related to the sulphur that Shell Canada and Petro Canada added to the fuel. The fuel gauge is showing the same type of erratic behaviour - improper indication of the amount of fuel in the tank. The dealer again added the fuel injector cleaner which doesn't seem to be working. I'm going back to the dealer and asking for another fuel sending unit replacement.

 

Has anyone else (probably a Canadian living in the Toronto area) experienced this problem?

It happened to my wifes malibu also here in south FL. We're yet to get it fixed....we don't know if we want to fix it ourself(through the stealer) or get shell to fix it. If we allow shell to fix it, they only fix the sending unit, and you waive your right to join a class action, and you have to agree that if something down the road happens as a result of the bad gas, you can't sue or ask for money, or join a class action.

 

If we pay to fix it ourselves, we can get into the class action suit, that I hear is taking shape. I could care less about the lawsuit.....but what I don't like is that if shell pays to fix it now, they make you sign a waiver that says they aren't responsible fo future failures

As far as all the waivers and stuff, this is not first hand knowledge, they did a big report about it on the news so some may be true some may be BS.

Shell is supposed to pay for this. I would find a dealer that will work with you on this but shell should foot bill.
