Amp Draw questions

Hi All,

First post here, I did a search but could not find the answers so here goes. What should the amperage be of a '94 GMC Serra GT pickup be when everything is off?

I am experiencing a battery drain over a 2 week period. I hooked my multimeter and I am showing a 0.273amp draw with nothing on. I know it will have some draw but not sure how much it should be.

Thanks

Anything more than 50 milliamps is too much. Start pulling fuses one at a time with the meter in series with the negative side of the battery. When the amperage draw goes to normal, you've isolated the circuit that's giving you the problem. Then you just have to find what's staying on. Make sure the battery is fully charged first.

You are a little on the high side here. Like post above, start pulling fuses and start with sound system with you have a after market one.

Thanks for the info, I pulled the fuses and I get it to drop to .033 amps when I pull the "csty" fuse. So that circuit is the problem. In the owners manual it lists this circuit as: Dome lights, csty lights, glove box light, radio (clock & memory), cargo light, horn feed, horn relay, cigar lighter, and park. What is park?

I unplugged the cigar lighter, radio leads, checked the glove box light. I'm not sure how to go about checking the rest. I think my next step is to get ahold of a wiring diagram. Any ideas ?

Thanks for helping steer me in the right direction

Sounds like you nailed the right circuit, just need to find out what's staying on. Check all of the under-dash lights, map lts etc. Of course make sure the doors are closed, because the dome lt is on that circuit. Do you have lighted vanity mirrors in the visors? I wonder if the underhood light is on that circuit? You're real close now!
