Aftermerket radio/dash lights - Help

Morning all....

Need some advise on my '02 GMC Sierra 2500HD. Replaced the OEM deck with an aftermarket one. The OEM deck has wiring to connect to the dimmer. New deck is stand alone. Covnersion connector used to connect the new deck to the existing wiring. No connection for the single grey wire in the dash harness for the dimmer. The bottom line the single diimer wire is not connected to anything. And it is the proper grey wire (there are two). Deck etc works perfectly.

Went out the other night and the dash lights came on for about 30 sec and quit. Using the GM shop manual diagnostics, I've determined the dimmer component of the H/L switch is not functioning. Need to replace the switch. Don't want to do that until I determine I've not done anything incorrect in the wiring.

Question then is, does the grey 'dimmer wire need to be connected? Does the circut require some sort of resistance it gets through the OEM radio? Any one istalled an aftermarket deck?

Thanks,

Chris

Welcome to the forum. The illum wire for the radio does not have to be connected. Just make sure that it is taped off/sealed so that it doesn't make contact with any of the metal parts and short out.
