My '03 just turned 50k, so I need to start thinking about new brakes. What are my options (good, better, best).

You might check them before you jump the gun. On lining types here, there is a lot of room for debate but I use softer pads than stock ones. They may not last as long but they are easier on the rotors and eaiser and cheaper to replace than the rotors too.
