trade in your truck for one of the new 2005 hybrid trucks. they get somewhere up around 12 mpg more.

Or trade it in for a toyota prius and let someone have that sweet truck who wont care about mpg.

I know it looks like we are being cute here but there is no magic silver bullet here to give you a big boost in mileage. I get 17mpg on the road with my 4x4 89 burb and I am pleased for its size and it is stock with stock type tires too. You should be able to do that and better with your 2wd truck with sensable driving and no wild mods.

I've always done a couple simple things to my trucks, nothing tricky. I add an aftermarket cat-back, switch to Mobil 1 Synthetic, and put a K&N drop in in. I have researched the cat back situation and had Flows, Gibsons, and others. Mandrel bending is marketing baloney, unless you are running 600bhp. I ended up with a Goerlichs Xlerator straigh through flow muffler and twins out the sides on my 02 Sierra, could not be happier. The Mobil 1 deal is a wash too, you can go more than twice the distance on synthetic, which washes out the price factor. I change mine every 7-8k and the K&N is a no brainer. Oh, and add a tonneau. I have the Access roll up. I maintain a consistent 20-21 mpg in my truck. Hope that helps.

replace any of the engine parts with the same parts with the same spec's only made with lighter materials, example-aluminum driveshaft, lighter rims, lightened crankshaft

did you miss the part that said "cheaply" ???
