regor Posted August 3, 2004 Posted August 3, 2004 Hi: I got a 01 silverado (4.8L, auto,2wd) that is coming up to the end of it's warranty (it hits the big 3 year mark end of September. I got 30K on it). So it was time for a LOF change and some warranty work. I figured I'd get the transmission and rear end fluid changed too. SO I go to pick it up and the service advisor tells me that they did not do the rearend because I had it done at 15,000 miles and they said it doesn't need changing until 60,000 and the transmission, I had changed at 20,000 and there was no need for it being changed then. Well heck! Here I was all willing to fork out the dollars to get these fluids changed now, and the dealership doesn't want to do it. Either I have a honest dealership that doesn't want to screw me, or they were just plain busy. So, BTW, how often do you get the rear end and tranny fluid changed in your silverado?
facn8me Posted August 4, 2004 Posted August 4, 2004 unless you drive under EXTREME conditions, they saved you money and were honest. .imagine that.... one for the record books.
duffus Posted August 4, 2004 Posted August 4, 2004 trans fluid, front & rear diff fluids, t-case, and especially the transmission & tranny filter, every 30k miles. I did that on my 93 z71 -- and when i sold it at 136k miles, it didn't have a single slip with the transmission. I've heard lotsa stories about chevrolet transmissions going at 80-120k miles, but even though i hauled loads and towed trailers occasionally, I never had a problem, but i don't know if those 80-120k transmissions ever had the oil & filter changed out.
truck rider Posted August 4, 2004 Posted August 4, 2004 I have a shart of my dealership here and it says: SERVICE TO BE PERFORMED change differential fluid: 15,000- 30,000--45,000 and 60,000 miles and I have the exact same numbers for transmission fluid. so my advice is that if there is another chevy or gmc dealer near by. go and get it done there. if there is no other dealer go back to your dealership and ask them to put in paper what they told you so you can have prove if somenthing ever goes wrong
