don't worry, in 4-5 years i will be in the market for a 92, 93, or 94 model 1/2 ton chevy or gmc.  why?  well i want a truck with the 350.  i will use it as daily transportation and it will be left stock (aside from the engine and things like spray in liner, no lifts or drops).  now i need your help, some of my questions may sound stupid, but i have not found a site with info on those model years.  first off, what was the top of the line model with full cloth seats, carpeting, power windows/locks, and premium stereo?  second what automatic trans came with the 350?  any help appriciated.  yes i am for real, i am seriously considering (and most likely will) be getting one of these trucks in 4-5 years.

The Silverado was the top of the line model, and I believe the autos were the 4L60E, but maybe the 700R4.  They changed from the 700R4 to the 4L60 E sometime around those years.  My '91 had the 700R4.

A Haynes manual I have says that in '91 some of the trucks had the 4L80E auto tranny installed.  I would guess that they were the 3/4 ton and up trucks.

ok, the truck will have to following or similar specs:

1/2 ton

2wd

350 V8

automatic

silverado pkg.

spray in liner (installed after purchase)

i want to keep the truck as stock as possible, i don't care too much if it is a reg or ext cab, but i would like a short bed.  i know the purchase is far off, but i want to be as educated as possible on these trucks.  also, what were ownership experiances or problems with these trucks

I loved my '91 and wish I still had it.  Not because I don't like my current truck, but because I wasn't wanting to get rid of it when it was wrecked.  Never really had any problems with it, other than replacing a couple starters.

thanks tom.  did it have the 350?  if so did it have adequate power?  was it easy to modify?  im not usually this serious, lol, but i want to know everything about this truck by the time i purchase it!

Yes, it had a 350 with plenty of power and was very easy to work on and modify.  I had been wanting to put a chip in it, but never got around to it.  I did a few things under the hood over the years.  I'm now sure what year, but sometime in the years you listed, the lid for the air filter had two posts, so adding a chrome lid with open element filter wouldn't be as easy.  They may have even moved the air box to the fender during those years, but I can't remember.

I usually used the stock air intake set up in the winter months, because it helped the engine to warm up quicker, and used the open element filter in the summer.

once again, thanks so much, i would be lost with out your help!  expect a lot of questions pretaining to the 92-94 trucks over the next 4 years, and in 4 years some pics of a nice shiney (blue of course!), new to me, chevy silverado c1500 w/ 350 and auto!

I usually got around 18 - 20 MPG on the highway, driving the speed limit or slightly over.    I don't remember what I was around town, I never checked it that often around town.

Let me get this straight.... In 4-5 years you will be in the market for a (by then) ten year old truck? And you want to learn everything you can about it between now & then? DUDE!! You can BUILD your own truck in 4-5 years! Are you for real, or what man? You seem to be stuck on having a 350 in this truck as well. What's the fascination with 350's and old beater trucks? I'll bet you $100 in 4-5 years time, you have changed your tune. Besides, you are ALREADY driving a ten year old Chevy, if that's your NEW Ford I see pictured here. LOL!  :D

tom -- thats good mileage

victory red -- i am waiting for the lease to run up on my current truck, clearing up some stuff.  also i will have a new company vehicle by then which will not break down when i need it to drive when work is being done on the older truck, this is a resto project!  also the 350 seems to be a good motor, i do not want a truck that is larger than a 1500 and i want a v8.  plus it would be stupid for me to walk into this thing with little or no knowledge of this truck.  i am not building a custom truck, it will be having a classicish truck that will have modern stuff in it.  10 years old is not bad for me.  also my garage and driveway is full now and i do not have room or time for a project.  also my current truck is a 2002 model, so i will be owning it for awhile

oh, and i priced the truck i want and if i buy now it will be close to $8,000, so unless the truck is in VERY bad shape it will not be going for $100

did some searching on autotrader, i found a truck that is pretty much exactly what i want, it's $12,000, the next closest match is $10,000

the truck with the $10,000 price tag had a 4.3 V6.

4x4 versions were going for $17,000
