1994 Silverado Performance Parts

Newbie here...and I was wondering about the performance parts that are available for the 1994 Silverado. I know that it's basically the standard fare 350 that's been made for years. However, I'm not that interested in modifying the internals...yet.

The truck has 177k on it and only has a flowmaster cat-back on it. Right now, I'm thinking intake and exhaust mods.

Intake

I'd like to get one of the tube style intakes that eliminates the factory air cleaner. Right now I have the lid flipped over old-school style but I think I could do better if it didn't suck in as much hot under-hood air. Do any of y'all have any recommendations on the intake? Do I really need to be concerned about the hot air?

Exhaust

I'd like to go with a set of long-tube headers instead of the shorties because of the better gains. But...I'm having a hard time finding a set with the O2 sensor bungs on them. So...my question is...do I have to use the O2 sensors or is there an O2 simulator (fancy resistor) to make sure they read the perfect a/f mixture?

Thanks in advance for the feedback.

If you live in a smog test area, you can pretty much forget long tube headers, unless there is a set out there with a 50 state exemption. Your results may vary, depending on the inspector. Having said that, you cannot run an o2 sensor simulator. If you get a Summit racing or Jeg's catalog, they sell a weld-on bung to thread in an o2 sensor. You can drill a hole in the collector and weld the bung in for the sensor. If your truck uses a one-wire sensor (non-heated), you may have trouble getting the sensor to maintain at least 600* for it to work as it's supposed to.

Pick up an issue of Car Craft from May -June of this year. They did a build-up of a 93 TBI, using all bolt on parts. Interesting reading.

Good wrenching,
