whats the truth about shocks

our trucks are heavy, Shocks will not do a lot to prevent / reduce rolling in the corners as the weight is transfered from different corners of the vehicle during turning manuvers.

rolling over on the tire in corners is best prevented by the following:

1) lower profile tires with stiffer sidewalls

2) larger diameter & stiffer anti roll / sway bars

3) stiffer bushings & end bushings on the sway bars

(urethane or harder durometer rubber)

4) adjustable end links on the sway bars

5) stiffer panhard rods on the front

& stiffer coils on the back

6) lower the truck (shorten the compression & rebound

of the springs)

reduce the high center of gravity of our trucks (good excuse to get a plasma cutter)

it will be a compromise between ride quality and better handling. If you want the 'Burb to handle for a auto cross with nice flat cornering, you better use a mouth guard to keep from chipping your teeth on daily driving.

I have tried a set of El-Raunco RS9000 before and on hardest setting did not do a lot to stop rolling over on the tire in agressive cornering. this was on a much lighter jeep cherokee.

On my 2500HD 4x4 I added Bilstein shocks and a Hellwig rear sway bar. This not only stopped the rolling but the float too. I noticed the improvement even more pulling my trailer.

Like other folks, I added a Hellwig rear anti-sway bar. It immediately improved the cornering. Consider doing that even before replacing the shocks. Hellwig bars come with fairly hard bushings.
