I was reading another post and the following reply was made - "or you can pm the forum me gmnewproductinfocenter and he will send you a copy of your vehicle history that shows everything that the dealers have done to your vehicle."

Can someone point me in the right direction on getting this information?

From the for what it's worth department.

FWIW:

I don't think that this is the GM new product info center's bag...I believe that they have a fellow that works there visits this board - - He probably has access to the VIN info program and has simply offered to do it as a favor.

That being said and me knowing some but not all of the particulars...:

Most dealerships have the ability to key in your VIN when they service your vehicle.  I don't know what year GM started doing this but...anyway.  This gives them the ability to pull up your service 'history' at another dealership.  Cool huh?  So if you have an engine replaced at 25K miles and then move to another dealership...the second dealership SHOULD have access to that info.

So if you wanna buy a used truck and you have a buddy at the dealer that can "run the VIN"...you're in good shape.  I wouldn't rely on Carfax for anything other than info regarding the # of times a vehicle has been titled...or a suspected odometer rollback.  Keep in mind that the Dodge Ram that Chrysler re-purchased from me as a lemon....does not reflect that on Carfax because they moved it out of state.  Now...suppose a potential buyer looked up the VIN at a Chrysler dealership?  He'd have seen the multitude of service orders on it from the dealership.

You can still get screwed though!  Suppose the dealership didn't log in all of your visits...or typo'd on the VIN or deleted a service order after the fact (This happened to me..I had a copy of the ticket and Chrysler had no record of it! HA!)

Suppose the previous owner got so pissed at the dealer that he took it to a non-dealer for multiple repairs.  This kinda thing wouldn't show on the VIN report.   Of course...it works both ways...Suppose you always go to the dealership for your service, and later they say a failure was a result of your lack of maintenance.....
