Hello, i just whanted to ask a quick question. Im looking at picking up an 05 Silverado 1500, just a work truck though. And i was wondering if the $900 is worth it for the 4.8L V-8. It dosnt make much more torque than the 4.3L (i think only 30ft lb). It will be a regular cab, 2wd 5speed. Im just looking for something new to use as a daily driver. My old 80 LUV has been a great truck but i think it could use a break

I agree, I'd go with the V8.

 

You might pay a little more, but not only do you get more power, it will be a TON easier to sell if the need ever arises. The 4.3s are a dime a dozen around here. The used ones sit on lots and in the Trader for months.

Welcome aboard and Happy Holiday! V8, 2wd, 5spd...that sounds like a real fun truck to drive! I'd definitely go with the V8, hands down. (they don't offer the 5.3 with a 5 speed do they?)

yeah i think the 5.3L only comes whith the 4L60E, otherwise that would be screamin fun

I would have to agree since I have a 4.3, and I wish I would of used my head when I bought it. I should of got a z-71. For what its worth I am happy with the truck, but some mistakes are worse than others.

I would go with the V8. I have had V6's when I drove standard cabs and would always ask myself why I did not go ahead and spring for the V8. I have the 4.8 in my Ext cab and enjoy it.
