water leaking on to carpet when it rains

I have done a search and could not find the answer I am looking for. I am pretty sure that the drain for the vents below the windshield is clogged. My question is where or how do you unclog it? I have taken the covers off and blew air through a long blow gun everwhere I could. I just replaced the blower motor and did not see anything there. Any help would be appreciated.

I would check the seal around the windshield because water can run down the pillar and look like it is coming from somewhere else. I had a similar problem with a 96 P/up and after doing a thorough search like you we found out the leak was in the seal where they stick the windshield to the body. It's worth a try.

I have a 99 silverado and I was getting water on the floor. What happened to me was the plastic that covers the speaker in the door was curled in and letting the water in a heavy rain roll out on the door and over the weather stripping. This puddled up right in the corner. It took 4 days for it to dry out with the rug up. I put extra plastic over the opening and have not had a problem since. Hope this helps

be sure that what you see is not a/c related

I had this trouble on a 94 & 96 model ext cab

something about the way a/c condensate drains allowed water under the passenger side carpet with a nice stale smell to it!

I had a friend that took his car in for an oil change at the dealer on time and the tech pluged the ac drain line with a bolt and caused it to back up in the floor board. Just a thought.

Is it dripping from the blower or from the HVAC unit?

If from the blower, read this post I did in another forum. I can't take credit as it was another member who suggested it but I did confirm it;

I have two GM trucks in the driveway that I work on. A 96 K1500 and 97 C1500 (father-in-law's). They both leak onto the passenger floor out of the blower housing. I noticed that on both sides of the plastic cowl cover, there are two screws that the factory siliconed.

The screws are easy to spot but first remove the end trim caps. Go to your truck with the hood closed. You will see a philips screw on each side right close to the fenders. Remove each one and the end cap will lift out. They are just held in with that one screw and plastic tabs.

Note: You really only need to do this to the right hand side of the vehicle to solve the water ingress problem.

With the right hand side end cap removed, it will reveal the culprit screw. It's a Phillips screw with a tapered head and it sits almost flush into the plastic. Pop the hood and you will see another one just like it about 6" towards the front of the vehicle. You want to remove them, pry the plastic up a little and clean the surface underneath. You could remove the cowl cover completely by taking out the other 4-5 screws across the top but it's not neccessary. Put a small blob of RTV around the holes, drop the cowl cover down and reinstall the screws. I even put a little under the head of the screw heads to really seal it.

We had disturbed the original silicone over the years due to general cleaning and working on the wiper system/spray nozzles on a number of occasions. I could see some of the old residue from the factory.

It's never leak since.

It is leaking from the fan. I know exactly what screws you are talking about. When I had the grills off before there was a build up of leaves right by there. I cleaned them out and the leak does not seem as bad. I think you might have hit the nail on the head with my problem. Thanks.

Yea I have the same issue. One of these days I'll pop that thing off and have a look. Hard rain comes in pretty good but usually only a few drips. I have the Husky liners for matts so it only sits there till I wipe it up!
