Tech Question

Newb, with a Newb Question .

 

SES indicated bad cam position sensor.

 

Question is: Is changing the sensor as easy as it sounds? Or are there any technical SNAFU's waiting for me?

 

I've changed the CPS several times on a friends 7.3 powerpuke and that's a simple process, remove old, install new, done.

 

Hope someone can confirm it's simplicity.

Piece of cake. Changed mine last year. It sits on the front of the engine, just drop the front skid plate and reach up, take the screws out and replace.

Hmmm, the 8.1's I've changed crankshaft position sensors on are in the back of the engine, on the top, behind the left cylinder head. A real bit*h to do especially since they like to break off flush with the block as you remove them. Then you're in for a fun ride since there's little room to work.

 

Oops, just re-read that and realized you're talking about the cam position sensor, not the crank sensor.

Thanks for the confermation. I'll be changing it tonight since we're having a heat wave, suposed to get up to 25.
