My 8.1 Crew track times, stockish

I met up with the Houston area LS1Tech.com truck crew. I made 7 runs trying different launch techniques and stuff. I didn't make any changes from street trim or remove any wieght, in fact it wieghed in at a bridge buckling 7,180 lbs :D race wieght. Best run with the crappy torque managment ruining my 60' times was a 16.551 @ 83.2. Doing the math for MPH indicates that's 323 HP at the wheels which is nice. The bad part was I never had a chance against anyone I ran. But it was fun just seeing what it would do. I broke something in the electronics, nothing major just a couple of communication codes. I wanted to remove the hypertech tuning and see what up but the problem prevented any reprogramming.

My mods are: Volant intake with home brew ram air, Hypertech programmer, and dual Flowmasters.

Some of the guys ran 12's on spray and cam, many 13's, 14's, and my mid 16 LOL.

My GF was all disapointed, our truck isn't fast anymore, those guys didn't impress me with their runs, it's too cold, you didn't tell me I couldn't ride along in the races, bla bla bla. I picked a race with another 2500HD crew on the way home and held him off so I feel a little better. Most fools on the street who pick races must run 17's+.

Here's a link to the pics, my truck is the BIG black one. My mods to increase girth are: Ranch Hand bumpers, tool box, spray in bed, some amps and a sub-woofers box under the rear seat. I wieghed about 180 of the 7180 :banghead:

16.55 is nothing to sneer at with a big HD truck.  Not to shabby.

No doubt, getting 7,000lbs to move that quick is damned impressive!

Have you taken yours to the track yet Linda? I'd be curious to see how the tune and shorter gear set help... I know my Wester's tune made a night and day difference in my measly 4.8L.

nah, not yet.....i wanna get it to the dyno first. I think early March I will get to the dyno. The nearest one to me is about an hour away.

Haulin' 8.1: Like your ride. Very similar to mine, right down to the Volant & Revo's!

7,100 lbs? Man, I though I was closer to the 6,000 mark. Oh well...even more impressive that my 8.1 cc can beat my brother's 5.4 Tahoe!

Just installed Westers a few weeks ago. Feels stronger and seem to be getting a little better MPG. Mine's an 04.

Take care and PM me when you get your horsepower numbers back. I'm curious to see what you are putting to the ground. D.

I tried several different launch methods. One thing is for sure, unless you need to heat up your tires try to avoid the water box as much as possible. With the torque management and big A/T tires there's normally not much spin out anyway, but if the tires are still wet from the water box it's a Sit N'Spin ordeal when you hammer down. The truck will burn out if needed to dry them off, without much effort.

I made several runs in 4HI and 2HI and overall 2HI produced the best times by about 1.5 tenths and 2 MPH. The best runs came by taking the torque managment by surprise, just idleing in gear then flooring it. It seems that power braking gives the ECM more time to reduce power and produces slower acceleration, that or the added friction of holding the brakes firm against the motor drug it down off the start.

With 265/70-16's and 3.73's the truck was shifting into 4th just before the lights at about 78-80 MPH.
