Rear window defroster on 2001

My 2001 Silverado didn't come with a rear window defroster. Has anybody installed one? Did you get one from the dealer parts counter or aftermarket supplier? I'd like to "throw" one on before the winter ice hits Pennsylvania. Thanks for any help folks.

Where in PA are you from Dan?

I have the factory rear window defroster, and this is the first truck I've ever owned with that option... Honestly I don't think I really ever needed it...

You know, I said the exact same thing about heated mirrors about this time last year. Then one day while I had to scrape about 3/8" of solid ice off my mirrors and rear window, and all I had to do on my moms new van was turn on the rear defroster (turns on heated mirrors as well) and after that I thought they were the greatest invention ever (well maybe not that great, but still pretty cool). Of course, we have a tendency to get large amounts of ice along with our snow.

Thanks for the advice. I live in Carlisle, PA near the center of the state. We get lots of winter days with 1/4" ice on the windows and I have this image of me slippin' off the tail gate after scraping the back window off (much to the amusement of my neighbors). I'm hoping to move back to Rochester, NY- the snow capitol soon and figure the defroster will come in handy there too.

Hey, thats half the fun of winter time. LOL

I would start at the parts counter and see what they say about getting a rear defroster and the required wiring and switches. If that route gets to expensive, I'm sure you could find an aftermarket unit to fit.

I bought my truck off the lot and the only 2 other options I would have included would have been heated side mirrors and auto dimming rear view. I have the rear window defroster and really like it. It is much more useful in Maine then a slider.
