Late Model Suburban / Yukon XL

Good Day!

I'm interested in a late model Suburban or Yukon XL 1500. My question is, are there any model years that I should avoid? I realize that some vehicles of any model year can be lemons, but am curious if any model year had more than it's share of problems.

Also, I'm wondering if there is any information available that would list the different option packages which were available for these late model vehicles. I have a list of features that I would be looking for, and am curious if I should be looking for a certain option package (XL, etc). The short list would include leather seats, tail gate (vs. barn doors), full tow package (transmission cooler, etc), security, heated seats, third rear seat, body side moldings, luggage rack, moon roof and child proof locks. Of course, the "standard" options (AC, cruise, tilt, CD, etc, etc) as well. I'm thinking that most of these features would be included in a option package of some sort or another, but perhaps they are options in and amongst themselves.

I really appreciate any insight on this! The information I have recieved from this site thus far has been invaluable!

Thanks very much for your time! :smash:

Tailgates are only offered before 1999. In 2000 and up the Subs/XLs have liftgates.

Chevy's LT trim package and the Yukon XL's SLT or Denali packages would have most of the stuff you want. LS and SLE trims would probably not have all of these options set up. You could use Edmunds.com to compare the details across years and trims.

But if you are checking out the actual vehicles, just look for black door handles and mirrors - that's a quick way to check if it is an LS or SLE. LT and SLTs have painted door handles to match the body color. Another quick way to distinguish years - 00-02s have chrome license plate lights while the 03-05s have black license plate lights (except Denali).

I like the dash setup on the 03-05s better than the 00-02s.

Good luck with your search!

Go for an 00-02 LT or SLT Model. The reason being is that the options you listed that you are looking for were standard on the 00-02 models. When you move up to 03 or later the trailer towing package, extra wiring for the trailer tow package, cross supports for your roof rack and Onstar just to name a few are options. In 00-02 these items were included with the LT package. Also 02 was the last year of the Cabin filtration system as well. I hope this helps :(
