Just wondering, gonna be working on a friends boat later on tonight and wanted to confirm that the 454 is the same firing order as a 350 : 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2

and is the oil capacity 7 or 8 quarts?

and we are doing a compression check tonight any one know how many psi it should be at?

Yep, the firing order is the same.

My old 454 needed 7 quarts but the boat 454 may have a different oil pan.

mininum is 100psi, you should see around 135-150psi on a good engine,

the lowest reading in any cylinder should not be less than 70% of the highest reading in any cylinder. ( meaning if you have one cylinder with 150psi then should should not have any other cylinders lower than 105psi, if so your engine needs help.

You didn't mention what year or type the boat is. Be careful, some working boats that I've run into have reverse rotation engines. The firing order is quite different.

Now for a little trivia:

Reverse rotation engines are accomplished with a simple cam change and reverse rotation starter motor.

They were (and maybe still are) used on boats primarily with twin engines to eliminate the torque twist on the hull.

I ran into some on lobster boats in Maine.
