Tranny dipsticks going away?

I just heard that the 2003 Grand Am's do not have an auto trans dipstick. That's big news, to me at least. I was wondering if this is a trend for GM (or the industry as a whole) for all V6's or all other GM car/truck engines.

It's actually been that way since before 2003 on several models. They're trying harder and harder to make the vehicles appear more maintenance free.

You have to do it up in the air. Sorta like checking a rear wheel drive rear axle level.
