I'm not 100% sure about the GMC's but on the :flag: trucks there's a couple of clips behind the grille that allows you to pop off the emblem. As far a the lights, I assume you mean the DRL's. Try pushing your dome override button 3 or 4 times very quickly. You should hear a chime and the DRLS are off...... until the next time you shut down and restart your truck.

The GMC emblem easily pops off once you can get behind it. There are three or four tabs, each with a hook on their end that are part of the emblem itself, and those tabs pass through long slots in the grill and then snap into place. All you gotta do is gently press those tabs aside and the emblem will come off.

It may be difficult to reach down there, especially if you have big hands.

So, you might have to remove the grill. That is a more complicated procedure, but not technically difficult at all. If you do remove the entire grill assembly, however, be careful not to flex anything too much, because the grill is entirely plastic, and some parts could bend or break off without much force.

To remove the grill you have to undo one bolt up top, then twist four plastic screws near each corner of the main front opening in front of the radiator 90 degrees. Then, you gotta undo two metal clips at each of the outer ends of the grill. just below and outside of the headlights. You might consider removing the primary headlight assembly to facilitate access to where those metal clips go into the fender. The metal clips themselves are a bit of a pain, but just work it and they will finally come lose. Be careful when you finally pull the last outer clip free, because the grill will want to suddenly drop clattering to the ground. Being plastic it's light weight, but it can be ackward to hold onto while working at each end. What I have done is leave the one center bolt for last, because that is easy and accessible, and allows you to maintain control of your grill. Also, once you pop the outer clips free, CAREFULLY flex the grill out and away from the fender areas, because those outer metal clips can easily scratch your paint or your headlight assembly.

Once the grill if off, place it upside down on a soft surface and you'll be surprised how easily the GMC logo pops out.

Hope this helps.

I was waiting for replies since I want to do the same thing. Original posters year read 200 so I don't know what year it is. My 2004 GMC appears to be part of the grill I will have to look closer for these "clips".

The dome override button 6 times within 4 sec. It will disable DRL's or your headlights. Enables you to do running lights/headlights only. Check your owners manual - it's in there.

Are you sure? I just went out and started up the truck and pushed the dome override button like a milion times..nothing happened. Its a 2000..does that make a difference?

Again, check your owner's manual. If I recall, on my 2000 Silverado, I had to press the dome overide button on and off in a series of three....example. on/off, on/off, on/off...then there would be a chime and the DRL's would turn off.

Well I looked in the manual and it tells you how to idle the vehicle with the automatic headlamp system off and to idle an automatic transmission equipped vehicle with the DRL off, both say to set the parking brake on..and start the vehicle..i dont get it..i did that and still the headlights are on. I NEED some help here.

On '99 and early'00's you don't have the option turn off the headlights. The only options are to install an inline switch (a quick search on this site any you should be able to find some instructions) or that R&D Headlight controller off of ebay (unfortunately that companies website doesn't exist any more). If you us the parking brake instruction you have to make sure that the key is in the off position before you set the parking brake. Then once the parking break is set turn the key on and you should have no lights and should be able to control them with the switch. Hope this helps some. :D
