Check Engine Light

Quick question,

My "Check Engine Light" came on tonight, will it reset itself? Can I reset it myself or do I have to take it to the dealership?

Year? Make? Model? Warranty?

Need... More... Info... :D

You can take it to most autoparts stores and they will hook up and read and/or reset the code for you for free. Call them first, as some want to charge, but most are free.

Most quick lube joints also have code readers too.

Oh..and for the most part, it wont reset itself. Especially if there's a problem.

Well, the parts store will tell you what code it's throwing, and the likely culprit.

On the off chance, did you get gas tonight, or recently?

My check engine light came on once after I didn't tighten the gas cap tight enough once.

Last time I got gas was on Saturday. I always make sure that the cap is on tight. I'll try and take it to a parts store, I live in Canada and I'm unsure if our parts store up here will check it for me but it's worth a shot.
