going from 265s to 285s

I have a 2000 silverado. Factory tire settings say 265/75 . And when i replaced the factory tires two years ago, I put 265/75 back on. Been doing alot of highway driving, so now i need new tires. Is it possible to upgrade to 285/75 (assuming i get no rubbing). Tire store says no way !!!! They say i gotta go to 285/60. But i've read on this site that 285/75 can be done. Any help would be appreciated. THANKS !!!!

The 285 75R 16's will work just fine, that's what I've had for about a year and a half now and I'm never going back to 265's!

I have 285's on my obs Z71 with zero rubbing and zero lift/crank whatsoever

I dont know why tire shops tell people that bigger (and usually more $$) tires wont fit

  And there aren't any "bellows". There are solid plastic doors the actuators move, which largely seal just by themselves, and then have a strip of foam around the edge to better seal the door. The foam does deteriorate over time, but this is unlikely to be a significant cause of the problem.

  are the heater controls set for hot or cold air? If it's set for hot, and say, to get air from outside the cab (vs recirculated air), even w the fan off, air will get pushed through the hvac system, over the heater core and into the cab. Switching it to cold will reduce the temp to whatever it is outside. Switching to recirculate mode (which may mean switching to vents or whatever, read your owners manual), will reduce the amount of airflow through the hvac system.
