manual transmission/tranfer case fluid

Recommended Posts

hey everyone:

newby here. I have a 2000 regular cab shortbed gmc sierra with a 4.8, 5 speed 4x4. It's about time to change the fluids in the trans and transfer. I don't have an owners manual for it. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what fluids i should put in the transmission. I read I should put dextron III in the transfer, am I correct?

thanks for the help

Remy

Tranny, that's an NV 3500, takes "Syncromesh" Fluid also labled as GL-S. It's a Penzoil product also available in Delco and Mopar packaging. It's basically modified motor oil, and it's spendy, but it's the only thing I know of that keeps the NV3500 shifting quietly. Find it at a discount parts store in a Penzoil bottle for the best price.
