4.3 swamping to a 4.3 vortec

My son has a 92 Jimmy 4x4 auto tranny with the 4.3

The last few years the engine has become tired.

We can get a Vortec 4.3 for the truck.

Whats involved in swamping the stock 4.3 for the 4.3 vortec

in the way of electronics , computers , etc.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Best way to do this is to find a donor truck to take engine, ECM and control harnesses from and you will need the fuel pump too as the Vortec needs about 70 PSI verse the 18 PSI the TBI pump makes before it is regulated to 9 to 13 PSI.

Its not worth it, you might as well put in a v-8 for that amount of work.

Just refresh/rebuild your current TBI 4.3 and you'll be happier than if you tryied that conversion.

Not if it is a Vortec V8. Besides the Vortec 4.3 runs a LOT better than the TBI model. A 4.3 vortec would give a stock 350 TBI a hard time especail once you wind them up and the TBI runs out of wind.

He is saying that for almost the same amount of work you could install the Vortec V8. Nobody said anything about a TBI 350.

Another option you might consider is to use a vortec engine along with your TBI set-up. There are intakes for the V8s maybe they make them for the V6 too (somebody know?). You would get the small benefit of the vortec heads and a newer engine without a huge amount of hassle.

Actually it would not be the same amount of work because you may have to change the torque converter if you go to a V8 because the current on is sized/stalled for less torque and you will have to change the radiator to because the V8 will require more cooling and then there is the exhaust system too which could be mated with another V6 but for a V8 it will likely have to be modified. So droping the engine into the frame is about the same work but hooking it up and making it work with take a lot more work with a V8 than to a Vortec V6 and you will have a lot tighter fit up by radiator and have to by more attention to airflow to keep engine cool in tight quarters.

The idea about the head swap may not be a bad idea along with a cam change too and the V8 TBI was meant as a power comparison not as a swap option.

Yeah, that's what almost means.

Not sure how you get to that unless you ingore the raditor changes, clearance issues with fan and different exhaust system too to name a few. It will take a lot more effort than a V6 swap. I have done 6 to V8 swaps in the past and I know that it takes more efort and expense to do it correctly. I am even planning a V8 to 6 swap in a truck old truck in future.
