whats good for dried out dash ?

Recommended Posts

I personally have not done this, but a co-worker of mine would swear up & down the best thing for the dash was/is.....Rub tranny fluid, yes tranny fluid into the dash and let it bake in the sun for a few hours afterwards.

Yours are already cracked so I don't know for sure but you might not get more or get bigger?

Meguiar's makes a product called NXT Protectant (Part#G12924). I tried it on my buddies 96 Burban with a dried out dash and it worked pretty good. It might be worth a try. :banghead::chevy:

What paint? Theres' paint on the dash? I thought died vinyl/leatherette.

Anyway never said it was a good idea :chevy: just that a buddy did this, its was a cheap way and seemed to work actually. He had an old 86?? Dodge, or maybe he lucked out and got a good dash, d?m knows the truck didn't (dash) :banghead:

I have had excellant luck with STP "Son of a Gun" as it works better than Armour all and brings luster back and will penatrate the surface. I have used it on old snowmobile seats and plastic trim and fuel tnaks and it has restored its luster after a several applications.

5 miles on it? Warranty. You have tons of mileage left on it so they can screw up three or four times getting it right (or fix the other parts they damage when they replace the dash). I know people that own 99's and they have never been garaged. The dash paint is still in good shape. After a year, there must have been a flaw in the paint or the application. Don't waste your time or money, make GM fit the bill, and get it right.

I agree. Use the warranty before putting tranny fluid on it.

They sure dont make dashes like they used to thats for sure.

The new trucks are even plastic!!

My '67 GTO has its original vinyl dash. Over 30 yrs old and it looks like it just came out of the factory. My dad, and myself have only used Armor All on it.

Hey, funny thing. I spent a couple hours armoralling the interior of my

Tahoe yesterday. I have had this truck for 3 year and have never touched the

interior with anything. I just dusted the dash and interior avoiding putting anything

on dash. Now that ski season is over, I am going through the yearly complete

cleaning. I lightly applied AAll all over, except the seats (that get meguirs leather

treatment). I spent alot of time and did all the buttons and nooks and crannies.

I am very happy with the results. Today I drove it after the AA dried. I felt great

to have such a nice dash and door panels looking clean and new!

I have been meaning to get some 303 since people speak so highly of it, but the

AA looks great!

good luck....Joe
