Hi all, I have a 99 s10 with the 2.2l and 5 speed manual and today the service engine soon light came on. Come to find out it is a P0440 Evaperative Emission Control System. Where should I start checking to find the problem? I wish I had All Data or something to get a pinpoint test for this DTC but I dont. If anyone could lend a hand that would be really awesome! Thanks everyone!

P0440 is a large leak detected. That means, when the system tried to pull a vacuum on the fuel system, it couldn't. That could be due to a bad gas cap, a sending unit seal, an evap vent valve leak, etc., etc. There's nothing common I can point you to on that model. If I had to guess, and you're sure the gas cap wasn't left loose, I'd say vent valve.

Thanks alot GM-Tech!!! The DTC description makes sense now. I wrote down all the freeze frame data from when the DTC was set and cleared it. Ill do a good visual of the evap system/components but other than having a smoke tester and being able to see the leak I dont know how far I will get. Thanks for the help again!
