Emissions - US and Canada

Recommended Posts

Dear Group,

Anyone kow if there is any correlation between the CARB (California Air Resources Board)/EPA standards for street legal engine emissions in the United States and the Emissions Testing Requirements in Canada?

ie. would a street legal crate engine from the United States pass an emissions test in Canada?

Thanks for any info.

Most, if not all CARB and EPA standards are more stringent than Canadian standards. There is also different rules for vehicles which have had an engine swap. I know this is the case in Ontario for the E-tests.

Thanks for the input Indy,

Here are some basic levels from Ontario.

1995 5.7L V8

HCppm @ 40 kph limit 81ppm / limit @idle 200ppm

CO% @ 40 kph limit 0.45 / limit @ idle 1.0

NO ppm@ 40 kph limit 1268ppm

I'll ask about changes regarding replacement engines.
