98 S-10 heater and A/C issues...

Recommended Posts

I knew the heater and A/C needed a little TLC when I bought this truck. The A/C I am pretty sure needs charged. It had some parts replaced on it and I dont think they ever recharged it. I assume this because the clutch doesnt even kick in on the compressor. Does anyone have any other ideas?

The heat on the other had has me kinda baffled. The fan works, the vents work fine. But no hot air. When I feel the heater hoses at the firewall, one is hot one is not. I think the heater core may be clogged up. Or is there a filter of some sort that I cant see? If it is chocked up, can I remove the hoses and back flush the core? TIA!!

it does sound like the heater core is clogged, pull both hoses, stick a garden hose to one end and it should push all the crud out. there is also a cabin filter on our trucks that should be replaced every 15k or sooner, mine was nasty when I bought my truck. there are write ups on how to replace it, it's a little tricky, but nothing bad. good luck.
