PS Fluid Change...fluid dark

I noticed since it was hot here the last few days that whenever I turned the wheel while either sitting still or moving slowly, the pump made a low volume squeal/squeak...only could hear it when the windows were down and radio off, but none the less, a little squeal when holding the wheel (Chevy service guys say no problem). So, I got a turkey baster and sucked some fluid from the unit (the fluid was very dark!) and replaced it with Valvoline Synpower (clear)...quiet as a mouse right after the semi-change . So, today I figured I would cycle some more new fluid...repeat the baster method 3-5 times until the fluid clears up...and consider it done. My question is, I assume the stuff I will put in (Valvoline Synpower #056) is compatable. The bottle says it matches GM# 1050017 , which is the only stuff I can find on gmgoodwrnech.com, so I figure anything that matches or exceeds this fluid is fine to use...my manual has a spec number, but I can never find that fluid. What have you guys used? I assume this is quality fluid and will be fine (the best autozone carries)...what do you think, thanks, later,

Cool , just finished the final exchange...comes out pretty clear now. Took 5 x 16 oz. exhanges (need 3 quarts)...little messy, but easy....NO, I bought the baster for this purpose...not sure how turkey and semi-synthetic fluid would go together...dry turkey should go down easier though ! Later,

when i did my truck, i was shocked to see the new stuff was clear. I had never done anything with ps fluid before, and the stuff i took out was pure black. i couldnt beleive it looked like that...

Mine was not black, but very dark brown...I sit in traffic quite often due to road construction and take a lot of small trips...so it is not surprising the fluid heated up and turned colors. Nothing wrong with changing fluids...should help in the long term. I have read where (on this forum) changed their fluid after a month of picking it up from the dealer and it was considerably dark with only 1000 miles...I just noticed a low volume squeak at certain wheel positions...figured it was not a big deal but decided to change the fluid (three separate Chevy service depts listened to it and told me not to worry about anything)...I am not sure why pumps make noises (other that low volume hiss while turning warming up)...anyway, she is quite (maybe even more so!) as ever. I think this is a quality fluid...Later,
