Found me a truck!!!

Hey guys,

I have found me a truck. Its a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado regular cab Z-71. It's Summit White with white fender flares. It only has 1,300 miles on it. Its fully loaded except for steering wheel controls and XM radio. Now, here are my questions. Can I buy the GM XM kit and have the dealership install it? I know it involves drilling in the roof but I am just wondering if it can be done? Another question is can I install the in dash 6 disc changer since this truck doesn't have bose? If so when I look on ebay is their anything special to look for or are the plugs the same for non-bose and bose radios? This truck has a cd player though. Last but not least, what can I expect as far as gas mileage? This truck has 3:42's in it and its the 5.3 liter engine. Thanks alot guys. When I test drive it and make sure its what I want, I will post some pics as soon as I purchase it!! Can't wait to be back in a new body style since the new ones have more hp and electric fans.

I have purchased and installed the xm kit in my truck (05 GMC), and all i can tell you, is that if you are even SLIGHTLY mechanically inclined, do it yourself. The instructions are clear, and it only takes about 45minutes to an hour to do it. The only thing is taking down the sunvisors...you need to know what to do to get them down without messing it up. Comes with a placement page to make sure your holes are drilled in the spot they need to be....simple plug and play after that..everything goes in under the glove box. I had my xm working in less than an hour and a half from start to listening.

P.S. the kit cost me 325.00 from gm. Lists for like almost 400.

Super!! I am glad that the factory kit will work with it. Does anybody know about the 6 disc changer w/ non-bose and the gas mileage?

I have a summit white 05 Z71 regular cab exactly like that. While the built in XM kit is no doubt much cleaner, I bought a roady2 ($48) and mounted it to the middle vent. I hid all the wires, and I think it looks pretty good- and I didnt have to drill anything. I also bought a spare antenna kit, so I can move XM to another vehicle in no time.

I have the 5300 w/4.10s, average ~16 MPG mixed driving...maybe 17-18 highway cruising @ 70-80 MPH.

The 6 disc player should be plug and play except the dealership or someone else with a Tech II will have to program the BCM for the option code of the radio, and will have to program the radio with the VIN of the new vehicle to unlock the theft deterrent.

I am not sure on the Bose issue, I am pretty sure there are 6 disc non-Bose units, and I would probably look for one of those if I was you, just to avoid any issues with not having the Bose amp, etc. Also noticed your gas mileage question, and I have a reg cab 4x4 5.3 truck at work, and it averages 19-21 mpg in rural driving.

Well, I have seen 6 disc units with Bose insignia(sp?)'s on them and some without them. But, most of the ones I have seen with it, looked like Escalade's and Denali's cd units. Does anybody know for certain? I will see if I can find a couple of auctions and link them.

Also, based on those MPG statements. I should be getting 22 to 24 with a Westers tune, drop in filter, and exhaust? That would awesome!!

Well guys, I got the truck. God I love this thing! Tons of power and the ride is super smooth. The radio that came in it is the one that has a cd player at the top and a tape player near the bottom of the unit. Does anybody know if XM will plug into this unit? I don't see the cd/aux button. All I see is a cd/tape button or cd/band. If I change to a 6 disc changer then I can install XM and will the 6 disc plug into it?
