Transfer case leaking slightly

Recommended Posts

I've noticed my transfer case is leaking slightly. It appears to be coming from the gasket on the rear where the conical aft part fits to the main transfer case assembly. Has anybody ever changed this? I'm assuming I pull the driveshaft and unbolt the rear cone portion. I'm not really sure what's inside it all.

You got it. Real simple. The seal is around $80  from a dealer. Pull driveshaft, remove seal, install new seal, install driveshaft. I used a piece of PVC to tap the new seal in.

Also take a look at your slip yolk. If it is pitted or rusty around where it contacts the seal, it will start leaking again. Emory paper can smooth things out or there is a sleeve you can buy to slide over the shaft where it contacts the seal. Don't forget, the slip yolk slides in and out of the t-case as the suspension loads and unloads.
