Need stereo advice

I'm looking to get a little more from the stock stereo on my '00 Z-71 extended cab. Here is what I was thinking, let me know if it sounds like a good idea:

Since the stock system seems to mostly struggle on the low end, I was thinking of adding a powered bass tube under the rear seat, and installing passive bass blockers (if you can still get them??) on the stock speakers. The filters would help the stockers handle more volume without distortion, and the tube would fill it back with a little more kick.

Has anybody done anything similar? I have no interest in changing head unit's, as I don't want to tempt the low life petty theives in the area.

Thanks for any help,

Todd

I tried that route and wasn't too happy with it. The stock speakers are really bad. Made of paper....longevity wasn't built into its design. I also had a 10" powered bazooka which I exchanged for an 8" cause it would rattle the truck. The bazooka drove me nuts after awhile with its boomy sound.

You didn't say what your budget was for this upgrade, but I would suggest changing out the front components and rear 4x6 to give it a better sound. Even a mid-priced polk audio would sound way better than the stock speakers. Lots of people are satisfied with the bazooka, unfortunately, I wasn't one of them. Good luck!!
