chugga chugga noise at idle...

i have a 97 yukon, and at idle i notice a sort of "chugga chugga" noise coming from the front of the engine every once in a while. it's not even a constant noise, it comes and goes. almost sounds like a rattle from a pulley or damper being loose. i checked them, and everything is good to go. i never noticed the noise before having a new fuel injection spider and new intake gaskets installed. i had a mechanic buddy of mine do most of the work, and there was a little bit of doubt as to the distributor being dropped in just the right location. if the distributor was off by a tooth, or if the timing was off some, could that be what's causing the rattle sound? any suggestions would be appreciated, and thanks for reading this long a** post. ;)

First off, if you think that's a long post...Think again. :)

Second, welcome to the forums :gmc:

Third...One of the pulleys could be losing a bearing, or the alternator could be doing the same. It's much easier to check the pulleys without the belt on, that way the tension won't take the play out of it.

Not sure about the timing/distributor question.

Once again, welcome. :loser:

thanks man. yeah, that's one thing i cheated on was not removing the belt. i'll do that and check again. it's been going on for some time now, and hasn't gotten any worse. it's more of a nuisance sound (i hope). anyway, if anyone else has any ideas or suggestions, i'm open. thanks in advance.
