Eaton Locker Question

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys,

A few months ago I posted about my Eaton locker not working.  My mechanic and I ripped the rear apart and found a broken tooth on the governor shaft.  So we replaced it and spun the tires and they locked.  We then dumped some synthetic gear oil in.  I took the truck for a spin and I couldn't get it to lock.  My question is do you need to put that GM limited slip additive in it, because I didn't.  Or does this not affect it at all.  Thanks,

The reason for the use of the additive is due to the heat generated in the clutch discs, it has no effect on the locking mechanism. whether or not you need it depends on the additives already in the synthetic oil you put in it.

Thanks 95 Silverado

I called my mechanic up today, and he said in my case, it would be better to leave the additive out.  It's snowing here in PA right now, and I just had the truck out, and it wasn't working right.  I jacked the vehicle up this morning and spun the tires, and they did lock, but it didn't seem like the wheels were locked very tightly together.  I put a block under one tire to keep it from spinning, and got the wheels to lock.  Even thought they were locked, I could still spin the tire relatively easily.  I am thinking that the clutch packs are shot.  I am just so sick of it not working that I am going to weld the spiders together.  At this point, I just don't care.  I have spent over $400 and it still doesn't work.
